How it works

  1. 01

A team has at most six athletes, with at least two of each gender.

  2. 02

A knockout bracket. In the first round, seed 1 meets the last seed, seed 2 the second-to-last, and so on.

  3. 03

A match is four duels: woman against woman, man against man, then a woman and a man again. Each duel won is worth one point.

  4. 04

A 2-2 score: each side adds the time of its fastest woman and its fastest man in the match. The smaller total goes through.

  5. 05

Giant slalom gates. The blue course is on the right as seen by the athlete, red on the left. False start, changing courses or a missed gate: disqualification.

Why it is worth watching

No need to read a clock: you see at once who wins. The format is short and the whole race happens on the lower part of the slope, in front of the crowd. It also makes every nation line up women and men in the same team.

A little history

The national team event reached the Games in 2018 in PyeongChang, where Switzerland beat Austria in the final. It left the Olympic programme in 2026 in favour of the team combined, but stays at the World Championships.

What to watch for

  1. 01

Stand facing the finish pitch: the whole race is visible from the Barzettes stadium. The Vermala area is closed that day.

  2. 02

At the start both gates open at the same moment: a racer who starts badly has everything to make up.

  3. 03

Follow the score of each match (1-0, 2-1) and, at 2-2, the time calculation.

  4. 04

Medals are awarded that evening at 18:00, during the free opening ceremony in Ycoor.
